Yamaha 20 mm Bar Risers

Posted on

Moving on up (on the bike) in my endeavor to make it more more comfortable for riding standing up, part three. I first installed the NiceCNC Lengthened Enlarged Foot Pegs and Lowering Kit and then the Yamaha Rally Seat. In this third part I am adding 20 mm bar risers from Yamaha. I think the work here is done. This bike is now perfect!

Original Yamaha Parts

Although my experiences with AliExpress and NiceCNC has been very positive so far, this time I opted for original Yamaha parts (NiceCNC offer bar risers as well). I just happened to be browsing the Yamaha website, and I noticed that this item was fairly decently priced and Yamaha offered free shipping to my local dealership, Rovik MC.

Neatly packed bar risers.

The bar risers came neatly packed when I picked them up at Rovik MC after a couple of days.

No damages here.

I appreciate when parts are packed like this to be well protected during transport. Nothing is as frustrating than unpacking stuff you’ve been eagerly waiting for only to discover they have been damaged on their way to you.

These need to come off.

This modification job is basically removing the old bar fasteners and adding the new bar risers, and without damaging anything on your bike. I stress this, because once the handlebar is loose, you need to make sure it does not move around and scratch your bike.

Blanket for comfort.

I used an old blanket to cover the tank area. It gave be a certain comfort during the operation, but frankly, it wasn’t needed as the handlebar is hanging on quite well due to all the wiring and cables. If you take some care, the handlebar should not even come close to any area it can damage. Blanket for comfort, though, still a good idea I think. Better safe than sorry, as they say.

Bigger is better.

The kit comes with new bolts that are 20 mm longer than the original ones. Both these bolts and the bar risers themselves are black, which I prefer over unoriginal parts that I often see come in “aluminum” color.

Right side is done.

The bar riser on the right side is in place.

Both are done.

Both bar risers are installed and it both looks and feels great!

Third modification. It is now perfect!

As I am 192 cm tall, these bar risers are the third modification I make to the bike to make it fit me better both while I ride sitting down and standing up. There is a massive difference, and I feel the bike is now more comfortable and controlled in all situations.

Among these three changes, from top to bottom: 1) bar risers, 2) rally seat and 3) lowered foot pegs, I believe the foot pegs contributed the most to this feeling of change. They do impact the balance and control of the bike quite significantly. Needless to say, though, I do recommend all of these modifications. This bike is now perfectly set up for me!
